How to measure the sustainability of a company

Certifying the sustainability of a company is a difficult operation, both in the case of processes and products, as there is no universal standard.

What tools are available to evaluate sustainability?

There are several tools, voluntary or mandatory, aimed at assessing three different environments of sustainability, namely the social, environmental and economic impact. Corporate sustainability therefore does not only refer to the environmental impact of its products and processes but also to the economic and social effect they have on the surrounding environment.

Among the main tools we therefore find: LCA Analysis, Life Cycle Assessment, for the environmental dimension, Life Cycle Cost Analysis, for the economic impact and Social Life Cycle Assessment, for the social dimension.

These tools are essential for assessing the level of sustainability of a company's products and processes, in order to certify their truthfulness, for example through ecolabel certification

Why is it important to certify sustainability? Because today, everything related to sustainability is fashionable and sells more, creating an abuse in the use of sustainable claims by companies, a phenomenon that takes the name of greenwashing.
