Bees day 2021
In 2021, World Bee Day falls on May 20 (Thursday).
For centuries, bees, among the most hardworking creatures on the planet, have benefited people, plants and the environment. By transporting pollen from flower to flower, bees and other pollinators enable not only the production of an abundance of fruit, nuts and seeds, but also greater variety and better quality, contributing to food security and nutrition. May 20 we celebrate the world day of bees. The celebration of the day was proposed by Slovenia. On 20 December 2017, after three years of international efforts, UN member states unanimously approved Slovenia's proposal, thus proclaiming 20 May World Bee Day. The initiative was supported by all states. United Nations, while 115 countries were co-sponsors, including major countries such as the United States, Canada, China, Russia, India, Brazil, Argentina, Australia and all EU member states. importance of bees and beekeeping. The main objective is to strengthen measures to protect bees and other pollinators, which would significantly contribute to solving problems related to the global food supply and to eliminate hunger in developing countries. their role in providing high quality food (honey, royal jelly and pollen) and other products used in healthcare and other industries (beeswax, propolis, bee venom). But the work of bees involves so much more! The major contribution of bees and other pollinators is the pollination of nearly three-quarters of the plants that produce 90% of the world's food. One third of world food production depends on bees, meaning every third tablespoon of food depends on pollination. Bees make a significant contribution to climate change mitigation and environmental conservation. In the long term, protecting bees and the beekeeping sector can help reduce poverty and hunger, as well as preserve a healthy environment and biodiversity. Almost 10% of bees are at risk of extinction and about 5% of them are likely endangered, while data is not available for almost 57% of the species. Scientific studies have shown that bees have become increasingly at risk. It is only through joint efforts that we can ensure the protection of bees and their habitats.
